Há várias interpretações do que é o “marketing”. Para muitas pessoas, é “publicidade”, “a arte de persuadir” ou simplesmente “promover produtos e serviços”. Segundo o “Pai” do marketing, Philip Kotler, é a arte de criar valor para o consumidor.
Reduzir o marketing a publicidade e promoção é apenas o elevator pitch. É verdade que as campanhas fazem parte do marketing, mas este é apenas o seu aspeto operacional, a parte visível do iceberg. Antes de chegarmos a este ponto, há todo um trabalho estratégico que fundamenta cada ação.
A primeira parte do marketing estratégico é a segmentação, sempre baseada numa pesquisa de mercado exaustiva. Estudar o público-alvo, descrever as personas, conhecer a estratégia dos principais concorrentes, definir o marketing mix, estudar as forças internas e externas, micro e macroambientais.
Todos estes elementos influenciam a forma como vamos apresentar o produto/serviço ao mercado – que características destacar, em que pain points tocar – e culminam na definição de objetivos concretos com um prazo definido. Só assim se consegue encontrar um norte para depois perceber se a campanha foi bem sucedida ou não.
Quando a estratégia sai do abstrato e ganha forma, estamos a falar do marketing tático. É o desdobramento da estratégia em planos de ação concretos que nos permitem atingir objetivos, como a atribuição das tarefas por equipas, a calendarização, definição dos canais e as métricas de acompanhamento.
Só depois partimos para a parte operacional – a ponta do iceberg, como referi anteriormente. Refiro-me a ações concretas como criar uma sequência de emails, enviar um comunicado de imprensa, criar uma landing page ou lançar um podcast, etc. Cada uma delas está alicerçada na estudo anterior.
No fundo, o marketing é o processo através do qual a empresa aloca os seus recursos limitados para gerar as melhores oportunidades de vendas e atingir os objetivos. Ignorar a sua faceta estratégica, e deixar-se levar por instintos ou “achismos”, traz inevitavelmente consequências nefastas.
Mesmo quando funcionam, é impossível perceber o que correu bem ou o que menos bem; não há um objetivo inicial com que comparar. Além disso, as diversas atividades de marketing não se vão complementar entre si, o que compromete a experiência do utilizador.
Isto porque o marketing não pára no momento em que atrai o cliente. Eu costumo dizer que o jogo começa aí, quando o lead vira cliente. Em vendas complexas, principalmente, é fundamental manter o cliente próximo, fidelizado, e continuar a alimentá-lo com conteúdos ricos que acrescentam valor ao uso que faz do produto ou serviço – lado a lado com o Customer Success.
O marketing não é pensado de forma isolada dos objetivos estratégicos da empresa, como se fosse o último passo do processo ou uma preocupação menor. O marketing começa bem mais atrás e deve ser desenhado ao mesmo tempo que a definição da estratégia da empresa e do desenho da sua oferta.
Sem saber como penetrar o mercado ou acrescentar valor ao cliente – especialmente em mercados saturados – a empresa está destinada a falhar, mesmo que ofereça um bom produto ou serviço. E termino com uma citação de Philip Kotler: “há apenas uma estratégia vencedora. Definir cuidadosamente o mercado alvo e levar uma oferta superior a esse mercado”.
